YOUR DATA, IN PLAIN ENGLISH

PRIVACY POLICY.

This site is a personal blog run by one person. I do not sell your data, I do not have a mailing list I add you to without asking, and I collect as little as the site can function on. Below is the full detail, written to be readable rather than lawyerly.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE

Fit & Myth (fitandmyth.com) is owned and run by Adriana, based in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, I am the data controller for this website.

WHAT IS COLLECTED

Comments

If you leave a comment, the form collects your name, email address, website (if you enter one), your IP address and browser user agent string. This is used to display the comment and to help with spam detection. Your email address is never published and never shared.

Contact by email

If you email me, I hold that email and your address in my inbox so I can reply to you. I do not add you to any list on the strength of an email.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics and Google Search Console to understand which pages people read and how they arrived. This produces aggregated, anonymised information — page views, rough location at country or city level, device type, referring site. It does not tell me who you are. Analytics data is processed by Google; see Google’s privacy policy.

Server logs

My hosting provider keeps standard access logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. This is normal for any website and is retained by the host under their own policy.

COOKIES

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. This site uses:

  • Essential cookies — set by WordPress to make the site work, and to remember your details if you tick the box when leaving a comment.
  • Analytics cookies — set by Google Analytics to count visits and understand traffic patterns.
  • Affiliate cookies — if you click an Amazon link, Amazon sets a cookie so that any purchase you make is credited to this site. That cookie is Amazon’s, governed by Amazon’s own privacy policy, and typically lasts 24 hours.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking analytics and affiliate cookies will not stop the site working.

AFFILIATE LINKS

Worth Knowing

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Clicking an affiliate link takes you to Amazon, where their privacy policy and cookies apply, not mine.

I never see who clicked what. Amazon reports sales to me as anonymous totals — a product and a number, with no customer information attached. Full detail on the affiliate disclosure page.

WHO YOUR DATA IS SHARED WITH

Nobody, in the sense that matters: I do not sell, rent or trade personal data, and I do not share it with advertisers. The only third parties that process anything are the services the site runs on — my web host, Google Analytics, and the spam filter on comments. Each processes data under its own agreement and privacy policy.

HOW LONG IT IS KEPT

  • Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so follow-up replies make sense — unless you ask for them to be removed.
  • Emails you send me are kept as long as they are useful for the conversation, then deleted.
  • Analytics data is retained according to Google’s standard retention period.

YOUR RIGHTS

Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask me for a copy of the personal data I hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to how it is used, and to have it provided in a portable format.

To exercise any of these, email fitandmyth@gmail.com. I will respond within one month, and it is free. In practice, for almost everyone, the answer is that the only thing held is a comment — and I will delete it the same day you ask.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

SECURITY

The site runs over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and the server is encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, but no sensitive personal data — no payments, no accounts, no health records — is collected or stored here in the first place.

CHILDREN

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information through the comment form, email me and I will remove it.

OTHER SITES

Pages here link out to Amazon, to research papers, to race organisers and to charities. Once you follow a link you are on somebody else’s site, under their privacy policy, and I have no control over what they collect.

CHANGES

If this policy changes in any way that affects you, the updated date below will change and the new version will be published here.
