THE EASIEST BALKAN TRIP on this site.

After Sarajevo's part-time routes and Boka's closed winter airport, Belgrade is a relief to plan: direct flights from London year round, a proper airport twenty minutes from the centre, and a city where your money goes embarrassingly far. The only planning pressure is the hotel — a fortieth-anniversary championships weekend will fill the centre.

A European Championships start line for the cost of a UK city-marathon weekend. The hotel is the moving part — the flight prices barely shift, but the centre will fill for the anniversary weekend, so the room is what you book first this time.

THE FLIGHT

TWO LONDON AIRPORTS, both of them direct.

Belgrade Nikola Tesla (BEG) is served from London year round — around three hours in the air. Check days and times against 15–19 April 2027 before you commit, and remember: bib collection is at the expo, so land by Friday.

AIR SERBIA

Heathrow → Belgrade

The national carrier, flying the route daily. The grown-up option: sensible hours, checked bag in the fare, and no airfield-at-4am experience.

WIZZ AIR

Luton → Belgrade

The budget workhorse. Fares from very little if you book ahead — watch the bag rules and remember a marathon kit bag is not a “small personal item”.

THE AIRPORT, and the one rule that matters.

Nikola Tesla Airport sits about 18km west of the centre — twenty to thirty minutes by road. Getting in is easy if you do it the official way:

A1 minibus	Airport ↔ Slavija Square, roughly every 20–30 minutes, a few pounds — the best-value route to the centre
Official taxi	Go to the taxi desk in arrivals first. It issues a fixed-price voucher by zone — roughly £15–20 to the centre — which the driver must honour
Bus 72	The regular city bus to Zeleni Venac — cheapest of all, slowest of all
What not to do	Accept a ride from anyone approaching you in the terminal. The voucher desk exists precisely because of them

Money, plainly: Serbia uses the dinar (RSD), roughly 117 to the euro. Race fees are quoted in euros but the city runs on dinars — cards are accepted almost everywhere, ATMs are everywhere, and the only arithmetic you need is that a 500-dinar coffee is about £3.60… for two.
